Dakar, (insidesomalia.org) - Senegal called on African countries which pledged to contribute troops to African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) to urgently deploy the peacekeepers.

Senegal's Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU and ECA, Ambassador Amadou Kebe,said additional peacekeepers are needed to pacify the country that has been marred by civil strife for years.

 He said the African countries which pledged to send troops should honor their pledges so as to further consolidate the relative peace that prevails in the country and help the Somali people lead stable life.

 The ambassador who recalled the agreement reached to deploy 8,000 troops in Somalia said that African countries need to urgently respond to the agreement following the foot-steps of Uganda and Burundi.

Had it not been for the sacrifice of Ethiopian troops, it would not have been possible to think of peace and stability in Somalia, the ambassador said, adding that the international community should therefore fulfill its responsibility of restoring peace and stability in Somalia by replacing Ethiopian troops.
